Kevin Williams to retire after eight years as CEO of The Fostering Network

News

Kevin Williams, chief executive of The Fostering Network, is to retire after almost 40 years in the voluntary and public sectors.

Kevin, who has spent the past eight years at The Fostering Network, has previously been chief executive of the fostering and adoption charity TACT and DGSM yourChoice. He began his career as a social worker and worked in a variety of roles in children’s social care in local authorities.

He said, 'It has been an honour to serve in the voluntary and public sectors; in all the roles I have held, my ambition has been to improve the lives of children and young people and to make their experience of childhood the very best it can be. I am proud of everything we have achieved over the last eight years at The Fostering Network and know the Government’s recent announcement setting out their strategy for children’s social care is the culmination of many years of campaigning to give fostering the focus and investment it so rightly deserves.'

As Kevin retires Mervyn Erskine, chair of trustees at The Fostering Network, paid tribute to him: 'Kevin has worked tirelessly on behalf of the fostering community putting passion and energy into raising awareness of fostering at every level across the UK. He has championed innovation in different models of foster care which has led to our Mockingbird programme being rolled out across England over the last eight years. The recent welcome news of wider rollout as part of the Government’s plans will ensure many more children and foster carers benefit from this pioneering model. Under his leadership the organisation has experienced remarkable growth and a vision to digitalise our membership offer which we will launch later this year. We thank Kevin for all he has done and wish him all the best for the future.'
