The session has been created in collaboration with young people from the LGBTQ+ community, taking a youth work perspective and reflecting their lived experiences, challenges, and needs.
The session aims to increase understanding of LGBTQ+ young people’s experiences and how they can be better supported in a professional capacity.
Session Aims:
- Increase understanding of common terminology and its importance in relation to LGBTQ+ identities
· Understanding and responding to Coming Out
- Improve awareness of the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ young people
- LGBTQ+ Rights (Protected characteristics, Hate Crime)
- Provide a supportive space to explore the impact of wider social narratives (norms), and how the Bystander Intervention Approach can support the creation of safer spaces
- Identify key take-away points for professional practice, to improve the support experience of LGBTQ+ young people
