Mockingbird: A really big family

News

Six young people from across the UK have been working together this year to create a film which shares their experiences of being part of Mockingbird constellations.

Intisa, Hawau, Liam, Lilly, Mariam and Tom came together on Zoom for ten weeks to share their experiences, build a script and develop ideas for animation style. Based on their script and visual concepts animators were invited to pitch their vision for the film and the young producers decided they wanted to work with Trago Studio.

Once the film entered production the young people were regularly consulted on animation, story and music options as Executive Producers. While we couldn’t bring the team together during production due to restrictions on travel and summer holidays we are looking forward to finally getting together for a stop-motion workshop in Bristol this Autumn.

Mockingbird, a global award winning and pioneering programme led by The Fostering Network in the UK, delivers sustainable foster care. It is an evidence-based model structured around the support and relationships an extended family provides. The model nurtures the relationships between children, young people and foster families supporting them to build a resilient and caring community.

Led by a hub home carer and liaison worker, the constellation community offers vital peer support and guidance alongside social activities and sleepovers to strengthen relationships
and permanence.
