Scottish Children's Minister writes to foster carers for Foster Care Fortnight

The Minister for Children, Young People and The Promise, Natalie Don-Innes MSP, has published an open letter to the foster care community. In it, she thanks foster carers for their vital role in caring for children across Scotland, and acknowledges both the challenges and rewards of fostering.

We were pleased to read that the Scottish Government will be providing an additional £1.9 million in 2025-26 to uprate the Scottish Recommended Allowance (SRA), while they consider the findings of the independent review of the SRA. This is a positive step after the disappointing decision not to uplift the SRA for the year 2024-25. We hope the new rates will be enough to meet our recommended allowance rates.

The Minister also provided updates on the analysis of the Scottish Government’s ‘future of foster care’ consultation, their newly launched foster carer recruitment campaign, and their accreditation as a Foster Friendly employer. We welcome these and look forward to reading the consultation analysis once it is published.
