Consultation on Draft Decision Making Guidance for Foster Carers in Scotland,

News

In response to the launch of a consultation on Draft Decision Making Guidance for Foster Carers in Scotland, Sara Lurie, director of The Fostering Network in Scotland, said: ‘We are delighted to see the Scottish Government’s draft decision making guidance, and thank all those who have worked so hard in drafting it. Very often we hear from foster carers that they, or the foster child’s social worker, are unclear as to who can make decisions and why, what decisions a child can make, and their powers to make decisions about the children they are caring for; and we feel that this guidance will provide carers with the clarity and confidence to ensure that the right decisions are being made by the right person at the right time.

‘The Fostering Network Scotland will be participating in the consultation, and will be asking for a few elements of the guidance to be clarified. We would also encourage our members to make use of the consultation period to ensure that the guidance meets their needs and covers all the areas of decision making that would help them in their day-to-day caring.’
