Developed for foster carers, designated teachers, social workers and other professionals within the education sector across Wales, this masterclass will give you the opportunity to develop a basic understanding of speech, language and communication impairments (SLCI), with practical tips and strategies to support pupils at home and in the classroom.

Date:
Tuesday, 31 January, 2017
Start time:
09:40
End time:
12:35
Location:
Venue Cymru, The Promenade, Llandudno, LL30 1BB
Region:
Wales

Many children find it hard to use words and sentences, speak clearly, understand conversations and develop early communication skills. These speech, language and communication difficulties will have a direct effect on a child’s relationships, attachment and learning.

The masterclass will aim to:

• increase confidence of foster carers to engage with schools and develop meaningful relationships
• increase participants’ knowledge and understanding of Speech, Language and Communication (SLC) and how children develop these skills
• encourage participants to think about the way children and adults interact together, and how this can influence children's communication development
when there are difficulties
• offer practical strategies with a focus on signs and symptoms, possible behaviours and how to support children and young people.

A full programme will be released shortly.
