The Fostering Network is offering free places on the Fostering Changes Programme for Independent Fostering Agencies in Wales, through the Big Lottery funded Confidence in Care Programme. The courses are open to all foster carers regardless of their experience and relationship to the children they look after. There are 12 places available for foster carers on each course, allocated on a first come first served basis. there are also a small number of places available for supervising social workers.
The Fostering Changes Programme is behaviourally based and derives from research into parenting skills, attachment, educational attainment and the academic progression of looked after children who are in foster care. It is flagship course for foster carers that provides them with the practical skills in behaviour identification and management that will support the longevity and stability of placements and make a significant difference to a looked after child’s life.
The 12 sessions are delivered over 12 weeks so the programme fits neatly within term times, and each day runs from 10am to 1pm to support carers with school commitments. It is important that carers and staff are able to commit to attending every Wednesday morning for the full 12 weeks. Foster carers are also expected to have a child in placement for the duration of the course.
To ensure that your agency does not miss out on this opportunity to access free training please contact the Learning and Development Manager to book places for your carers as soon as possible.
