To explore how we can balance fostered children and young people’s rights to live normal lives in an increasingly digital world with the need to keep them as safe as possible.

This course is aimed at...

...both social workers and foster carers. We can offer separate courses for social workers and foster carers (enabling each group to focus on its particular responsibilities), or courses with a mixed group of social workers and foster carers.

This course will enable participants to

  • increase knowledge of the various ways in which children and young people engage with the virtual world
  • raise awareness of the benefits and opportunities digital technologies offer to looked after children and young people
  • explore potential safety issues for looked after children and young people using digital technologies
  • identify the core skills that foster carers can use to support young people to operate safely in the virtual world
