A free masterclass for foster carers and practitioners exploring how the team around the child can help to keep children and young people safe and resilient in an ever-changing digital world.
*Please note that this matserclas is now at full capacity*
The rapid take up of new technologies among the young have meant that families, schools and organisations have had to increase their awareness and understanding quickly against a backdrop of new threats and risks faced by children and young people in care.
The challenges faced include wider questions about how we intervene in children and young people’s broader moral and social development when this is being influenced by a range of social media outside of our control. The dilemmas that foster carers and social workers face include how to manage children and young people sexting, viewing pornography, live streaming, gaming and being bullied and influenced by technology out of school.
This masterclass will provide the foundations for sensible, ethical and balanced guidance on how to navigate these pressures, whilst also acknowledging how the internet provides a world of opportunity and positive benefit for children and young people in care.
This masterclass will:
- Explore the internet and new technologies in order to learn what children and young people are doing now, taking a closer look at popular apps
- Evaluate different approaches to child protection, safer caring, risk and resilience
- Clarify the key principles of effective education and support to influence children and young people to make good choices.
