Training courses

The Fostering Network can provide individual or packages of courses on a variety of topics to meet your service’s needs. Our in-service training can be tailored to benefit all professionals in the team around the child, while our open courses equip individuals in your team with the knowledge they need to enhance their role.

The Fostering Network have supported foster carers and services with training for many years, from developing the leading pre-approval training The Skills to Foster™, Managing Allegations and Fostering Panel training through to providing packages of courses covering a variety of topics to meet your foster carers's and service’s needs. Much of our training is designed to benefit both foster carers and social workers. We believe that there are significant mutual benefits for foster carers and social workers to access training together, both enriching the training itself and strengthening relationships within the team around the child.

We deliver training in two ways:

Open courses

Our open courses provide an affordable way for members of the team to learn, expand their knowledge and improve practice. Check out and book into our upcoming courses on our training calendar.

In-house training

All courses on our Training Pathways can be delivered as in-house training and can be tailored to your service. Our team of in-house and associate practice experts will work with you to identify the needs of training participants and design a course to meet their specific needs. Courses are delivered virtually or on-site. We provide a post-training evaluation report as part of the package to demonstrate the impact of the training and further learning opportunities.

Training pathways

Our training pathways are shaped by The Department for Education’s Training Support and Development Standards for Foster Care in England, the Scottish Social Services Council’s The Standard for Foster Care, and the Welsh National Fostering Framework’s Post Approval Learning and Development Framework, to aid you in meeting the training standards required of your foster carers. We are continuously working to add to our training portfolio. If you have a training need not listed, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

I thought that the training was very good at refreshing my knowledge and a good learning opportunity. It was very well delivered by someone that understood my role as a foster carer and what I would need to improve to help me in fostering children..
