This session will be delivered by Stuart Khokhar – Foster Carer and Trainer.
Exposure to alcohol during pregnancy can cause irreversible changes to a developing brain, affecting cognitive, emotional, and physical development. This damage occurs before birth but has lifelong consequences. In this webinar, we will share a foster carer's lived experience of supporting a child with known and documented prenatal alcohol exposure. The session will offer insight into the realities of caring for a child with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), and the practicalities of providing long-term support.
This webinar will include:
- What is FASD?
Understanding the condition and its impact on development. - How does it occur?
Exploring the effects of alcohol exposure during pregnancy. - How does it present?
Recognising the signs and symptoms in children and young people. - What support does the young person need?
Identifying strategies and resources to meet their needs. - What are the long-term implications and practicalities of care?
Reflecting on the challenges and considerations for foster carers
