All I want to do is dance, sing and act - Matthew's story

My name is Matthew Miller I am 16 years of age and I have been in care all my life. I have had a lot of foster carers in this time until I was finally moved to my present carers 8 years ago.

I remember the first week I came to them I was entered into a talent contest and came first. I have always loved to sing dance and act. Mum and dad looked for dance schools as soon as I moved in with them, I attended a musical theatre company where I appeared in Les Miserable, Jesus Christ Superstar, Greece, Zoosical the musical and Miss Saigon. I was then approached by a company called Impulse where I appeared in Birmingham in Rent, In the Heights and currently rehearsing for Rock of Ages.

Mum and Dad found a school in Oswestry doing performing arts, which has been brilliant. As a result of this, a year ago I started competing in dance competitions, I compete nearly every weekend and although this is very expensive they continue to support me and pay for this, It involves competing in Ireland three times a year and Ibiza. My proudest moment was when, after six weeks, I entered the European dance championships in which I won 1st place I also won a weekend in London all expenses paid to see One Direction. We had our own box, the hotel was fantastic and it was a wonderful experience. I have then gone on to win the British championships and world championships, I have also won pairs championships with my partner Laura Ellis.

Dancing is my life

Dancing is my life and due to competing I was spotted and offered a three year scholarship at Masters Performing Arts in Essex, this is worth £38,000 pounds. Dancing has made me feel so much more confident in myself. Apart from that as I dance six days a week I am super fit, I have a fantastic circle of friends in the dance world, I know that what I have achieved in a year some dancers still have not achieved after 10 years and I know that it has shocked many people in the dance world how quickly I have progressed from starter to champ in 12 months, I know that this is due to the fact than when I dance I totally lose myself I am not afraid of trying any new moves,

I feel that if I hadn't been in foster care and with mum and dad (John and Judy) I would never have had the chances that I have had. Being in care with mum and dad has been a really positive experience for me this is my forever home and always will be. They are my family, they are always there for me and making me feel good about myself, and telling me how proud they feel when they see me dancing singing or acting. All I want to do is dance, sing and act, and dancing has guaranteed my future.

If you think you could offer a stable, loving home to a looked after child and enable them to realise their full potential visit our Could You Foster pages.
