A blue car, a mother and a gorgeous baby boy - Robbie's story #SandD2015

The phone rang…

It was around three in the afternoon when my mum got that very special phone call, as soon as the phone was put down, “I have some news,” my mum had announced. “We have been offered a placement.” At that moment the feelings felt like fireworks exploding in my stomach.

It was the big day. I remember a blue car pulling up and out came a mother and a gorgeous baby boy. I was so excited I felt as if I was a cannon about to explode. However, it was a short placement but a rather thrilling and impacting time which I will never forget.

The last day approached, the fireworks starting again in my stomach. I was having the last cuddle, I remembered that he used to hold my thumb like he never wanted to let go, I will miss that so much. At that moment I was trying to keep the tears in. Sadly there was only one thing that I didn’t like that much, every time I wore my favourite top he thought it would be funny the vomit on it. This was the thrilling roller-coaster of a journey of my mum and dad’s first placement.

One of my parents’ other placement was two young siblings; I have a whole bucket list of memory’s about these two, one of which are their famous two words NO and MORE. The memory at the top of my bucket is that one afternoon they were playing in the lounge, there was only one rocket toy but they both wanted to play with it so I got a plastic bottle and made it into a rocket for them. They were so thrilled. Sadly when this placement came to an end they asked “Please may we keep our rocket?” I couldn’t help but say yes.

I have loved every moment since my parents started fostering. There is only one thing…that is, I wish they had thought of fostering a long time ago as I love getting to meet new people and to help them out and support in any way possible. Every placement comes with unknowing challenges and rewards and a truly amazing impact own my life and theirs and others around us.
