Free fall for fostering!

The fundraising team at The Fostering Network appreciate what an emotional undertaking it can be to sign up to a personal challenge and we are so grateful to everyone who continues to do so to raise money and awareness for The Fostering Network.

We are thrilled that two of our colleagues, Clare and Charlotte, from the Cardiff office have signed up to a once in a life time experience of skydiving in order to raise funds and awareness for The Fostering Network.

They will take to the skies over Swansea airfield in late September and if you’d like to sponsor them you can do that here. We asked Clare a few questions about her skydive journey so far…

Why did you sign up to a skydive?

It is something I have always wanted to do and I decided 2018 was the year I would do it. We then had a call out of the blue from our corporate partner Dreams who were putting a skydive team together and I ‘jumped’ at the chance to join them!

It was the perfect fit; doing something to challenge myself and raise funds and awareness of the fantastic work that The Fostering Network does across the UK. I then managed to persuade my colleague Charlotte to sign up too!

How are you preparing?

Does trying hard not to think about it count?! I keep forgetting and then someone else mentions it and my stomach flips! I think the main worry is the fear ruining my experience so I have ordered a book called ‘Feel the Fear and do it anyway’ fingers crossed it works!

What do your friends and family think?

My uncle was a professional skydiving photographer for years so my family isn’t that impressed, but they are amazed I signed up as they know I’m petrified of heights! My friends think it’s hilarious but everyone is being supportive and some are coming along to ‘hold my hand’ on the day.

What are you looking forward to about the day?

Weirdly I am actually looking forward to doing the jump. As mentioned, it’s something I have always wanted to do but my fear of heights has held me back. I want to face the fear and enjoy it as much as possible. I am looking forward to having Charlotte with me and both of us doing such a crazy thing together.

Is this the craziest challenge you’ve done? If not- what is?

This is going to be the scariest/craziest thing I have ever done. I did the zip line in North Wales in April to ‘prepare’ myself and was pretty prettified throughout, but it definitely helped me face some of my fears so hopefully I will manage to keep my eyes open for all of the jump and not shake uncontrollably!

Have you ever taken a deep breath and signed up to a fundraising challenge like this?! Maybe it’s something you’re considering for the near future?

We’d love to hear from you if so and if you’re looking for inspiration then our new fundraising pack should do the trick and our fundraising team are on hand with any queries: fundraising@fostering.net or 020 6270 8403.

The sky’s the limit!
